Walks from Guthega Power Station

Guthega Power Station is the highest Power Station in the Snowy Hydro System located at the confluence of the Snowy River & Munyang River. Easily located 500m off the Guthega Rd it's only 6km from BASECAMP Cafe. From here you can visit historical functioning huts in the subalpine area of the Whites River Corridor with parking at the Guthega Power Station Car Park. This area is behind locked gates & closed to vehicular access but open to walkers. There is a network of huts further on into the northern areas of the Kosciuszko National but consider how far you go regarding turn around times for a day walk! There are alternate routes to the huts along aquaduct tracks but refer to a map for these or else just stick to the main route. Know that the bridge at the bottom of the Disappointment aquaduct track is no longer there which makes for a difficult crossing/rock hop if the river is up!

What ever you choose Easter is the best time of the year to walk with azure blue skies, clear nights & early morning frosts. Regardless of the forecast you are in the mountains so please have the correct gear for any season; better to have it & not used it than not having it when you needed it! Looking forward to seeing you at BASECAMP Cafe.
